How do I create a new department?

What is a department? #

Departments are used to break up your online catalogue into groups of related products. These departments are presented to your customer through the menu that appears on every page of your website. The intent is to create collections of similar products, making it easier for your customers to find what they are looking for.

GiftSite comes with a series of preconfigured departments with a logical, hierarchical structure. We took this approach to make launching your GiftSite a simple and efficient experience. Our hope is that these preconfigured departments meet many of the requirements of a typical GiftSite retailer.

However, we appreciate that every GiftSite retailer represents a unique business and you may require product departments that are not currently available “out of the box”. With this in mind please use the instructions below to submit an application for a custom department to be added to the GiftSite network.

Things to consider #

When submitting your application for a new department please consider the following:

• In what tier is your department located? Tier 1, tier 2 or tier 3?
• If your suggested department is tier 1 please provided the structure of the sub-departments in your submission. An example of a tier 1 Beauty department could look like this:
  • Fragrance – Tier 2
    • Perfume – Tier 3
    • After-shave – Tier 3
    • Unisex fragrance – Tier 3
  • Makeup – Tier 2
    • Foundation – Tier 3
    • Lipstick – Tier 3
    • Nail polish – Tier 3
    • Mascara – Tier 3
  • Skin Care – Tier 2
    • Cleansers – Tier 3
    • Moisturisers – Tier 3
    • Toner – Tier 3
    • Body lotion – Tier 3

• If your department is in tier 2, please provide its tier 3 sub-departments and the tier 1 department under which it is located.
• If your department is in tier 3, please provide the tier 2 department under which it is located.

How do I make a “new department” application? #
